Truth is NOT Relative, It Is Absolute – John 14:6

"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"

(John 14:6).

In this verse we confirm Jesus' identity as the Truth. He is the only way to the Father, and His truth is the foundation of our relationship with God.

We must have heard the statement:  “Jesus is not simply the embodiment of truth; He is the Truth. Sure, that is a statement of fact about Truth, because, Truth is not a perception, idea, concept or a word construct. The Bible tells us it is a Person” The statement emphasizes that Jesus is not just a depiction or embodiment of truth, but He is the very essence and personification of Truth itself. This means that Truth is not just a philosophical concept, a moral code, or a set of principles, but a living, breathing Person.

JESUS is the light of the world (John 8:12) that illuminates our minds to see clearly the Truth as against the lies and falsehood of Satan and his deceptive antics. C.S Lewis once stated “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen, not only because I see it but because by it I see everything else.” - “A Mind Awake: An Anthology of C. S. Lewis”, p.229, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

It is in Jesus, the Truth and the Light, that we are able to apply the right judgement, the right reasoning pattern, and the power of discerning what the truth is, from the false. We gain the knowledge to interpret the situations, circumstances, events and happenings that evolves around our world, placing them on the actuality of truth.

Jesus is the Truth, when we abide in Jesus (John 15:4) and He in us we gain the WORD by the Spirit of truth aligning us to the right perspective and right reasoning as it is applicable to the world around us. It is in the seeking of our Lord Jesus Christ that we become a people of truth, then, as we remain intentional and consistent in faithfulness to God through our devotional life, it becomes difficult to fall for falsehood or become an advocate of misconstrued truth, lies and deceptive antics of the enemy.

We ought to be aware that our world today is polarized, people with their knowledge and philosophies have broken up into divergent factions and groups, opposing the absoluteness of Truth, making their standpoint and predicates that truth is subjective- whereas truth is absolute because Truth is Jesus Christ.

Dictionary meaning of truth: (Merriam Webster Dictionary)

       I.            Truth is actuality of things, events and fact.

II.            Truth is the state of being the case.

III.            Truth is a judgement, proposition or Idea that is true or accepted as true.

IV.            Truth is sincerity in action, character and utterance.

    V.            Truth is being in accordance with fact.

The Convergence – Truth and truth

However, in the context of this piece, these can be perceived as fragments and reflections of the transcendence of ultimate spiritual reality of the moral verity, revealed of Jesus in the Scriptures. In essence, to be positioned in the frame of mind that believes unwaveringly and accepts ‘truth as the sincerity in action, character and utterance’ amidst the falsehood, lies, aberrance or deviance that our world is utterly saturated, that mind must have been revealed of the absolute Truth from the scriptures.

As Jesus Himself, said: - "Sanctify them by the Truth; Your Word is Truth" (John 17:17).

Here, Jesus prayed that His followers would be sanctified (set apart) by the truth of God's Word. We should bear Truth as part of our character traits, upholding God's Word as the ultimate standard of truth.

In summary:

"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth" (John 1:14).

Here, our attention is called to the fact that Jesus is the Word of God; He is the personification of Truth. He came from the Father, full of grace and truth, and His presence among us reveals the glory of God.

Finally, the statement "Jesus is not simply the embodiment of truth; He is the Truth" reflects the biblical understanding that Jesus is the personification of truth, the ultimate standard of truth, and the only way to the Father.
